Impacts of air pollution
It is not a secret that global warming has resulted in climate change. Global warming, over the past century, has been attributed to human activities and industrialization in developed countries, including the United States. Over this period of time, however, there are increasing concerns as to where we are heading with regard to the climate crisis. Among the major contributors to this trend are emissions of carbon dioxide, which is one of the most harmful gases, and other chemicals that can be found in human exhausts. The two most important of these gases are “carbon monoxide” and “methane.” Methane is present at all times in abundance in the air, it’s used in car fuel, and it’s also emitted when industries use methane for cooking or fertilizer purposes (Mongosian University).
These gases have been blamed as being responsible for causing global warming or more specifically, climate change. They are responsible for changes in temperature, precipitation, snow and wind patterns, rainfall, heat waves, crop production, flooding etc. As per USA Today, they blame man’s actions and industrialization, particularly in developing nations, for causing these changes. Man in particular has contributed to these effects and since the beginning has done little to stop them. However, over time it became clear that something needs to be done. Now here is where the issue becomes complicated. Man’s contribution to these changes needs to be stopped and he is going to need to find some way to prevent future global catastrophes. If we do not take precautions now, soon will be too late and unless we move quickly, we may never see any improvements.
The best way to reduce risks of these gases is through environmental practices. These ones should be avoided, not just their levels need to stay low, and no single action will be able to reverse all of this. One must practice good care in the following areas:
Education and awareness about the dangers of emitting gases and what could be done about them
Clean up the air in your living environment
Reduce pollution and toxic emissions from transportation
Avoid unnecessary travel
Reduce waste at source
Reducing waste, especially garbage not only has an impact on global warming but has a negative effect too. Garbage can pollute natural resources such as rainwater, water supplies, and even cause damage to vegetation and wildlife. A few measures by reducing recycling needs to be taken to help protect biodiversity and ecosystems and reduce the burden of garbage on landfills.
Some people argue that cutting down power consumption would stop these gases. To put an end to this argument, one can look at Japan, where electricity is still needed for almost every function. In places like Singapore, a large number of cars go off less, the city receives higher amounts of sunlight than typical days of January, and a huge network of public transportation means exist in cities across both sides of the country. With this type of system in place, the number of cars needing to run off-grid is dramatically lower than it used to be. Furthermore, in places such as Hong Kong, China, and Italy, public transit systems are very well integrated with buses, trains, etc. This allows riders to easily walk around and get to work or school.
Although there are certainly some disadvantages to reducing these gases, there must be other solutions given the current circumstances. For example, if you live near a park, you can make the park more attractive and enjoyable. Have benches installed, tables put out for dining and relaxing. There must be clean restrooms in public spaces. Public transportation and communication can greatly improve and decrease pollution. Cleaner air is essential to maintain life, and so, reducing the amount of pollution emitted also creates fewer opportunities for disease. While some of us believe that the sky-high price tag of these technologies will bring greater benefits, others fear the loss of jobs and the unknown future. All of us believe we can afford to pay, although much better methods are now available to cut down pollution. We need to look at the pros and cons of these methods of energy saving before making a final decision.
In conclusion, if we do not follow proper guidelines about how to reduce pollution, we will definitely do ourselves, our planet and society some serious problems. Hopefully, after considering this topic, there are enough solutions to take, we have the money and technology to implement them, and our society is safer than ever before. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read this article.
